Mobile apps and online competitions – a fun way to engage

5 Flares 5 Flares ×

Summer time is a great time for holidays and all things fun, including online contests with prizes. We’ve watched in last couple of years that mobile apps for citizens’ use have started to be more and more used. Why? Because they are useful and easy to access (37% of users go online using mobile on a global scale- Source while in Romania the penetration rate of mobile internet will reach 55% by 2018, according to a study by PwC Entertainment and Media Outlook). Corporate and public alike are starting to build their own user friendly, practical use oriented mobile apps, in areas ranging from diplomatic consular support to hiking apps, hospital alerts and mountain rescue tracking apps.

On the other hand, online competitions are a fun way for institutions to get closer to their audience, promote their activities and also inform the public about them, by rewarding the most active of their online users with simple prizes. This will help, in time, build up a community of fans around that institution and will make the citizens who are willing to get their information online to turn to your institution’s page time and again for latest news.

Here are a few useful mobile apps and online competitions created or organized by the various EU institutions. Access is free and easy and you get a chance to either find the information you actually need (like travel advice) or have fun and win prizes. Take a look!

1. Planning to drive through Europe this summer? What safety equipment do you need to have in your car? What are the speed limits? The new road safety app created by the European Commission knows. Check it out before you leave.
